The Biscuiterie Menou
Last Tuesday, thanks to Francis, the Breton Heritage Club visited the “Biscuiterie Menou” at Plougonver. 12 members attended. We were welcomed by Martine Menou who introduced us to the “biscuiterie” and its museum; she explained that they were busy putting up the Christmas theme, including, at the moment, an igloo and a bear (a lot more to come!). The main present theme is devoted to the traditions linked to marriage in Brittany in the 19th century, including a bride dressed in a full black costume and several beautiful bridal globes. We then moved on to the biscuiterie/bakery and all the nice local specialities they also sell, everything being displayed on beautiful old furniture in traditional shops of the past. Have a look at the photos Lori and I took, you will see! We were then offered coffee and biscuits and Francis introduced us to more Breton marriage traditions (some funny, some not so funny!) in the old days. We were all very pleased with the visit.
